Save The Youth share new song ‘As Our House Burns By The Ocean’

Rock band from Sorsogon, Save The Youth recently released their new single ‘As Our House Burns By The Ocean‘. This is the band’s comeback single after ‘Santa Raphaela‘ which was released two years ago.

We’d like it if people who listen to ‘As Our House Burns by the Ocean’ get their own personal meaning out of it. We tried to be specific yet somehow broad in the songwriting process because we wanted a balance between sharing our own thoughts and feelings and the listener’s personal interpretation of the song. As for us, it talks about a relationship slowly breaking down. It’s all viewed in a lens of a person who seems to still be holding on to hope. Hope that can be viewed as romantic, futile, perhaps toxic, or downright stupid. That’s where the listener’s perspective comes in. Depende na sa kanila yun.

It’s a pretty lengthy song, spanning over 7 minutes. Aside from the fact that we wanted to say a lot of things, it can also be kind of a way of interpreting how drawn out the end of a relationship can be at times. We wanted it to be lengthy to evoke a sort of exhausting ‘calm before the storm’ feeling. With the storm fucking everything up by the end. And speaking of that storm in the end, that end part is where it all comes together  with multiple vocal layers on a bed of more layers of ambient and acoustic guitar leading up to a hush as the song finishes. You have to listen to it for all of this to make sense, of course. Hehe.
