REVIEW: The One They Fear – Persevere (EP)

FFO: Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying (early), All That Remains

New York-based metalcore group The One They Fear released their second EP this month entitled “Persevere“.

The band states:

We wrote it and started recording before the pandemic started but finishing it during the pandemic molded it into what it has become. Starting out wanting to write a more up tempo, lighter content driven EP than our previous EP “Silence Is Consent“. It turned out being therapeutic for us during lockdown and (lent) to the subject matter of the EP.

EP Review:

Rating: 3/5

The One They Fear‘s quarantine-born EP “Persevere” is a potential nostalgic trip for any long-time metalcore fan out there. In four tracks, this band from New York captures the essence of 2000’s metalcore well with mosh-inducing instrumentals coupled with vocals that make you want to scream your chest out. Personally, while it can get repetitive especially halfway through the EP, it is still quite an enjoyable listen and if you are a fan of that good, old, classic metalcore sound, then you’ve got to give this one a try!
