Alternative rock band from Malolos, Bulacan, LUNARLIGHTS recently released their second single ‘T.Y.T.’ under Tower of Doom Records. According to Jose, it is the first song that they recorded since signing to TOD. Following their hit single ‘Pangungusap ft. Madeline’ which is a happy-sad song, ‘T.Y.T.’ will give you this heartbreaking feels.
Our team is glad to have an exclusive interview with LUNARLIGHTS’ frontman Jose Gaspar as he talks about the band’s latest single and their future plans.
Finite: Hi LUNARLIGHTS! Please tell us something about your new song ‘T.Y.T.’
Jose: ‘T.Y.T.’ is a bitter-sweet love song about trying to be happy for the other person in the relationship in spite of the two of you not ending up with each other. Forget about missing them or longing for them, as long as you know their happy where they are or who their with. But there is also also a hopeful undertone to the song knowing that time could eventually change the situation in your relationship.
Finite: What was the inspiration behind it?
Jose: A couple of things, one would be some personal stuff going on in my life during the time I wrote it, which pretty much is summarized by the song. And the other would be WWE wrestler Matt Hardy’s “Broken” Character. There’s this clip on Youtube where he and his brother Jeff Hardy kept on singing the word “Obsolete” in one of their promos, and me being an avid wrestling fan, kinda challenged myself to try and put that word in a song as well.
Finite: How does the songwriting work primarily on this new song?
Jose: The writing process was pretty much the same throughout the recording of this new album. I come in and present an idea to the boys, we jam it out then we make tweaks before demoing the song. Then finally we record it at TOD.
Finite: What can we expect from LUNARLIGHTS before this year ends and for 2020?
Jose: Hopefully we could release a video for ‘T.Y.T.’ before the year ends. Maybe some new merch? We don’t know that yet. Haha. Then everything else is pretty much lined up for next year.
Finite: Any advice to all aspiring musicians?
Jose: Just keep writing, and be honest on what you write. Because It will reflect in your art if you’re not. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your sound and try to do something different from the rest of the pack.
