Pop punk act END STREET recently released their new swirling single with a music video for ‘Sayawan Na‘ under Tower of Doom.
It is almost a common practice for musicians to grow out of their comfort zones and to be more experimental, when one exhausts all of their creative flow in one genre, there is a tendency to pivot towards something different; like a palette cleanser of some sorts. Such is the case with End Street’s latest single named “Sayawan Na” – an experimental shift from the pop punk outfit into a more synth-driven and beat-heavy 80’s nostalgia.
End Street is, and will somewhat always be a pop punk band. It is clear to see from their discography on Spotify and on YouTube that all of their previous materials have mainly focused on that punk grit but with that pop melody. However, with Sayawan Na, the main idea is not to fully transition into a new genre, but more of experimenting on a new sound and how far the band can stretch their creative muscles. Far from the actual punk build, the song completely drops the full band setup and uses sampled beats and synth-heavy pads that really lifts the song into that newer and fresher vibe. Not only that but Sayawan Na is an obvious stray away from the punk lyrics of anger and pain, to a more relaxed “I’m not okay but at least I can dance” thought.
Sayawan is just one of the ten songs we will hear on their upcoming LP album “Mga Kwentong Walang Kwenta” to be released sometime in 2024 under Tower of Doom Studios; an album that he says is the culmination of the band’s creative body of work for the last year.
