Kit De Gala (LUNARLIGHTS) and Sherann Doon (Dotty’s World) released their collaborative album called ‘Kalawakan‘. In this interview, we talked about some insights of their quarantine project.
Finite: You just released your new album ‘Kalawakan’ with Sherann Doon, what inspired you to create a collaborative project like this?
Kit: 2020 was a terrible year for me. My dad died, then this coronavirus outbreak. I spent several months alone because of the quarantine. Those experiences made me write songs for this album. Me and Sherann already collaborated last year, and she helped on writing Bituin and Buwan, so I asked her to do the vocal parts on this album. Glad she said yes.
Finite: You dedicate this album to the people you love especially to your dad, how was the reaction of your family, friends, and supporters when they first heard these songs?
Kit: I think they liked it. I hope so. My family and friends congratulated me.
Sherann: My family congratulated me too.
Finite: Are there any bands or artists that have influenced or inspired you musically in this album?
Kit: Yes. SCANDAL, Red Hot Chili Peppers, She is Summer, and Rico Blanco.
Sherann: Haruna Ono of SCANDAL, and Yeng Constantino.
Finite: What’s the most challenging part of recording and writing ‘Kalawakan’?
Kit: I think writing and arranging the song Ulap. it’s different from the rest of the songs.
Sherann: the most challenging part for me is recording the vocal parts. I’m not really a singer, but Kit wanted me to sing his songs. That experience boosted my confidence though.
Finite: You already worked with each other in the past (Nandito Lang Ako), can we expect more collaborations together in the future?
Kit: Yes! I had fun making this album and I definitely want to do it again.
Sherann: Yes! Maybe next year?
