To perhaps many of you reading, alternative rock band Point North is an unfamiliar name but fear not as we’re here to help you get to know this up-and-coming three piece who released their self-produced debut album, “Brand New Vision” today, August 21st, via Hopeless Records.
Formed in 2017, the band consists of Jon Lundin on vocals, Andy Hershey on guitar, and Sage Weeber on drums.
For their debut album, Point North aims to showcase “an alternate reality that celebrates a break from predictability and normalcy for a world that is uncomfortable, a world that has meaning, a world in colour – a place to feel something” through eyes of the album’s main character named Drax.
The band aimed to make Brand New Vision as human, honest, vulnerable, and aspirational as possible. They assert, “If we can inspire one person to exert some good into this world, we have done our jobs.”
The album’s sound showcases a very emotional form of alternative rock; with every song being equally captivating and catchy without becoming too monotonous and repetitive; each track managing to give listeners a twist that will surely get them hooked (like featuring rapper DE’WAYNE and Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens) and wanting for more of this sound Point North clearly have full mastery over.
Prior to the release of the album, the band premiered the single “No One’s Listening“, and the band quotes:
“’No One’s Listening’ is a song written about the inequality and injustice that migrant Americans face on a daily basis. We wanted this track to express the detriment, frustration and sense of entrapment it can cause.
It’s super important to us that we utilize our platform to spread awareness on social injustices such as these. Resources for putting an end to the unjust raids, deportation of mothers and fathers, and separation of families can be found below.”
